Lay it Down – Jordan Earls

I was one of the
three-hundred souls swaying
in that dark auditorium.
The music carrying us away
into our own
personal private places.
The voices,
inside and out,
urging my young heart to

      lay it down.

 I am certain that
this took place inside, but
I am also certain that
there was a wind;
a cool, unexplainable wind
dancing around all of us.
My eyes were closed,
though not in prayer;
I was listening with
all of my might
and all I could hear was

     lay it down.

How should a child react
when the One who made him
is calling, is reaching,
is loving him so clearly?

     lay it down.

My small form separated from
the rest of the writhing mass
and found a quiet place.
To you, it would have appeared
as an average dark hall
you could find just about anywhere;
But to me, oh, to me,
I had found a throne room.

     lay it down.

 I know this must sound silly;
Perhaps it is, perhaps it isn’t.
All I know is that moment
may still be the most
significant moment
in my short life.
The moment I

     laid it down.
