About the Poem: STOLEN THOUGHTS

STOLEN THOUGHTS BY RICK

She picked
a moment later
the ring in the floor
you’re convinced
as she’s using it
if maybe he waited
being any the wiser
suspect
creep
off she’ll be
maybe we need
three strikes
one is trying
murder
so what do we do
this is to find
dead guy
same time
seen or heard
try to put the blame
you bet
his family
looks like I’m headed to . . .

Stolen Thoughts is, in fact, stolen. I was trying something new. I’ll tell you what I did. I was reading a book and caught on to a word. Then I thought about words in context and you can take a paragraph in any book and completely change the meaning by taking words out, adding a comma here and there, adding a word, mixing them up. So I took the book I was reading at the time and focused on a few pages. I pulled words and phrases out at random and afterward, I laid it out, did some editing, tweaked it here and there and that’s it.

Kind of like found art. Take something that already exists and make it your own.
