Although a national coalition, JAC recognizes that the struggle for carceral justice and abolition is, at its root, a global one. The United States carceral system is uniquely harmful in many ways. But it is also a historical product of worldwide practices of oppression and colonialism. It is in this way that the US carceral system finds similarity with systems elsewhere. We at JAC want to recognize the international solidarity that exists between individuals, programs, organizations, and ideologies dedicated to reimagining justice through the arts.
