Gallery of the Month: March

Welcome to the newest gallery in JAC’s Gallery of the Month series, where we showcase a wide range of art and writing under unique monthly themes. Check back on the first of each month for a new collection of works by the talented artists in the JAC network. To view past galleries of the month, see our Gallery Archive

Whether it’s a drive to work or an overseas flight, time spent in transport often feels like a blank interval. A few hours suspended in the sky, away from the action on the ground; a waiting period rather than the main event. Yet, the larger part of our lives is spent in these intervals, moving from one place to another, in waiting. It is during these journeys between two landmarks that we are most challenged and confronted, forced to learn more about our character and abilities. With every physical journey comes an internal one, often more demanding than the walk, drive, or flight.

The artists in our network find their means of transportation within themselves, discovering ways to venture to breathtaking places and take us with them. There’s a journey to be had through the process of creation, with each second of the painstaking process teaching you more about yourself and what you’re capable of achieving. These artists embark on that voyage time and time again, their travels culminating in the vibrant and imaginative works of art that we are so honored to witness. We see their destinations, but rarely their journeys.

This month’s gallery showcases artwork that captures the spirit of adventure, whether its subject is the process or the destination. From roads to boats to landscapes, each piece represents a different part of a journey, transporting us to scenes across the planet. As you scroll, we hope you find yourself among city streets, waves, and deserts, taking time for reflection while seated upon ships and subways until you arrive at locations that make the waiting periods worth it. Thank you for traveling with us.

We hope you enjoy this month’s gallery: Journeys
