Guest Blog: Joshua Earls

Joshua Earls is a prolific painter and writer who discovered the power of art during his “turbulent and sometimes terrifying first months incarcerated.” His oil paintings and drawings portray diverse, realistic subjects that range from nature to his mother’s red velvet cake. Below, Josh shares his 2020 newsletter, where he writes about JAC, a year of “firsts” (including learning how to speak Russian!), and rekindling friendships, among other things. Several paintings, drawings, and doodles are also included!

You can view more of Josh’s work in his portfolio. If you are interested in connecting with an artist experiencing incarceration, please sign up for our pARTner Project!
