I would like to invite you to a special opportunity concerning MUSIC FROM THE BIG HOUSE, a powerful film that follows a Blues woman to a legendary prison on a quest for redemption through music. This acclaimed documentary has been riveting audiences in theaters across the country this Summer. We would love to bring it to your community, but we need your help!
MUSIC FROM THE BIG HOUSE follows Rita Chiarelli, Canada’s Queen of the Blues, during her pilgrimage to one of the birthplaces of blues, Louisiana State Maximum Security Penitentiary, a.k.a Angola Prison—historically, the bloodiest prison in America.Rather than telling sensational stories about the incarcerated, MUSIC FROM THE BIG HOUSE showcases remarkable voices of hope, using a shared love of music to examine questions of redemption, forgiveness, and our common humanity. We know the film will resonate with your community, and we hope it will serve to amplify your mission and work.
You can request a screening of this film through Gathr Films, a new service that allows you to create a movie event for your community. Simply request a screening at gathr.us and we will handle the arrangements with your local theater; all you need to take care of is the audience.
Gathr screenings need a minimum number of reservations in advance or the screening doesn’t happen. So the key to making your event a success is telling lots of people about it through email, word of mouth, Facebook and Twitter — and having them tell lots of people about it too.
